Solheim Cup, countdown to the best women’s golf

The Solheim Cup, the spectacular women’s golf duel between Europe and the United States, which will be played for the first time in Spain from September 22 to 24, 2023 in the prestigious Finca Cortesín de Casares, begins its countdown with the One Year Again celebration events.

This means that there are only 365 days left for this great event to begin at the emblematic Finca Cortesín in Casares. We can say that this Soldheim Cup is added to the list of major events organized by Spain: the football and basketball world cups, the 1997 Ryder Cup, the America’s Sailing Cup.

The Solheim Cup, schedule

It’s three countdowns. The first is in Benahavis, the second in Casares and the third in Puerto Banús, places that will play a special role in this great tournament. A clock has been discovered which will count the days, hours, minutes and seconds remaining before this great duel between Europe and the United States begins.

Those responsible for the inauguration of the Benahavís clock were its mayor, José Antonio Mena, and the president of the Andalusian Golf Federation, Pablo Mansilla. Both stressed the importance of a world-class event “where the presence of many fans is expected”, they stressed.

“We had been fighting since 1016 for this Solheim Cup to come to Andalusia,” stressed Mansilla. Mena, for his part, stressed that this event “will be beneficial for the Costa del Sol, Andalusia and Spain”.

And from Benahavís we moved to Casares. The place where the competition will take place in all its glory. Second countdown. Marta Figueras Dotti, Raquel Carriedo, Andrés Velencoso, Alberto Gonzàlez Missis, guitarist of De Vicio, a Pop group, gave the starting shot on the 1st tee of the Finca Cortesin course.

Of course, the captain of the Solheim European Cup team, Suzanne Pettersen. Raquel Carriedo had the honor of being the first Spaniard to compete in the Solheim Cup. We can also mention Arturo Bernal Bergua, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Junta de Andalucía; Francisco Salado Escaño, president of the Diputación de Malaga; María Ángeles Muñoz, Mayor of Marbella; José Antonio Mena, Mayor of Benahavis; José Carrasco, Mayor of Casares; and the authorities of the LET, the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, the Solheim family.

We are going to Marbella. The “Longest Swing” in the Puerto Banús Dam, where 365 children offer a wave-like approach with biodegradable balls to the sea. Cocktail and countdown lighting at the Dock of Honor in Puerto Banús The Solheim Cup was disputed first seen in Florida in 1990 and named after Karsten Solheim, the businessman and golf club designer behind its creation.

In the Solheim Cup, two teams of 12 players compete over three days with the same format as the Ryder Cup and 28 matches in total (eight foursomes and eight fourballs on the first two days and 12 singles on the last day). Since its creation in 1990, the United States have won ten times against Europe seven times.
